Most people buy properties in Singapore for personal accommodation, although there are a handful of them that bought for rental purpose. By renting out your property, you receive a regular stream of rental income. Furthermore, you can charge any operating expenses against the rental income earned. Expenses would include costs of repair, maintenance, insurance, tax and mortgage interest.

Beside earning rental income, your property can yield capital gain if you sell it at a price higher than costs. As land is scarce in Singapore and the population is growing, the value of properties is expected to rise in the long run.

In the short run though, properties like any investments are subject to economic and political conditions. Thus property market will still go through booms and busts. Property value also tend to increase over time, in countries where inflation rates are positive.
