Hedge Funds are pooled investment vehicles that are usually set up as private partnership. Due to its nature, it is usually targeted at high net worth individuals and institutional investors. Hedge funds employ unconventional investment strategies with the aim of getting positive returns regardless of the market conditions. Because of this, the risk associated with investing in such funds are very high.

The first hedge fund in Singapore was ABN Amro's "Multi Strateggy" fund-of-funds launched in August 2002. Characteristics of hedge funds, the fund-of-funds invest in are those that adopt long and short equity positions, invest in high yield distressed debt, global macro and managed futures.
